John Garfield Tilley.John's Great Grandson was first elected to Council in 1965 serving to 1974 when he became Mayor for two terms of seven years,John then continued on as Councillor up to his retirement in 1993. During the period John was involved in Council the area began to change dramaticaly as the Westfield Shopping Center opened, the O'Bahn rail system came to fruition and apart from a natural growing area we had the Golden Grove/Greenwith Development.John would have had mixed emotions as most of this land was farmed by various Tilley family members. As Mayoress Jean Tilley was almost as busy as her husband and found herself Patron of several organisations and on many Committees. In 1987 in recognition of his 27 years service to the community John was awarded the Order of Australia medal.
